just getting back in to electronics @ component level after 25 years absense - needed SMD practice
1 of 1 found this helpful It was a good practice project! A bit slow at first until I figured out you can do nearly the whole board at once with a heat gun. I broke it in to sections at a time though, "dotted" the pads with rosin/solder mix, then heated them with the "hot air rework tool" then just went up and down the line - needed a bit less air (moved one off fit's pad) and the rest of the board was finished in a few minutes. Overall, I liked it. Then I removed them all again with the hot air gun, cleaned the pads, then put them back again. These parts are small enough to get your attention for sure! I had to substitute one resistor with a standard resistor. I tried to pick it up with the tweezers (perhaps a bit too carelessly) and it flew away! :) (a second one I found after an extensive search!) Easy to do. Be deliberate, careful and don't squeeze them too hard with the tweezers when picking these things up! My vacuum pen would not reliably pick these up or simply wasn't convenient. Cleaned board with 99.9 alcohol. (no acetone mix needed) But for an SMD practice board, I liked it. Now I'm going to order one for my 7 year old grand daughter! :) That kid can really solder! (thru hole) Now we will let her try SMD and a heat gun. (Did I mention these PARTS ARE TINY for tired old eyes like mine! :) ) Oh, board was surprisingly small too. I was a bit disappointed when I first saw it but it definitely grew on me.

these are nice!
I was soldering them before buying the crimpers - I'm really good at soldering but occasionally you'll still make them with a little too much solder to fit the housing correctly. I wish I'd have known about the tool sooner. Now I can make a connector in seconds - really really nice tool - makes the anderson system perfect - these are nearly required for the 45 amp connectors
