Sinbad the Good Guy
A good quality costume epic, the kind that you would want to watch more that once. Sinbad goes after the treasure of Alexander the Great hidden on an island. At the same time, he races against a petty ruler who is also after the treasure, believing the riches will help him in his quest for world domination. In the final sequence, Sinbad utilizes "Greek fire" to defeat his domineering rival, so that he can bring back the treasure to his home port. However, rather than enrich himself, he gives it all away to the locals and tells him that the real riches can be found within. It's kind of inspiring, actually; the script is heavy with flowery, poetic language. The movie could have used a little bit more of the fantasy element. There are no flying carpets or genies in this production as it tries for realism like other similar films of the 1940's. Despite that, it proves to be great entertainment.

Fine Kung Fu Historical Epic
The movie follows a fascinating story line. I wish they could have covered more of the earlier background of the plot. For example, the main character does not perform any archery in the movie (except in the opening scene), which is surprising based on the title. It would have probably made it a five-star film if they had included some scenes from earlier in the main character's life when he made his name as the Brave Archer. True to it being a Shaw Brothers film, the emphasis is less on the fight scenes and more on the characters and plot development. There's never a dull moment in this engaging historical-themed martial arts classic.

A Smart, Engaging, But Light-Hearted "1001 Nights" Tale
The "Arabian Nights" genre is one of my favorite movie themes. I've seen a number of them; some of course better than others. One thing you can tell is one they really put their all into a production and don't just phone it in with a few flying carpets and genie lamps. This is one of those better movies, mainly because it has most of the features you would expect from a genie adventure, but I also found it to have an enlightening message as well. It's a fun movie; I will be watching it again!
