Complete Accordion Course
The collaboration between Bill Palmer and Bill Hughes (Palmer's student) began just before World War II. In the 1950s that partnership produced a ten-book course of piano accordion lessons, drills and training music. This course has stood the test of time as perhaps the best way to learn the piano accordion "from the ground up."
The books begin with the absolute basics in Vol. 1, so no previous skill with the accordion is required. If followed diligently with the help of a good teacher, a student can gain technique, musicality, and confidence in equal measures until the course is completed. At that point the avid student will be armed with sufficient musical power to be considered for university-level (or conservatory) education in music and accordion performance.
For adult learners, or for those with some skill upon starting the Palmer-Hughes course series, the pace of presentation and learning may appear too slow. This is a purposefully paced, thorough series, designed to avoid leaving any significant skill holes for a student. Because of its age, the course may appear a bit dated, but there are no elements that are outmoded.
I highly recommend this course to any serious student of the piano accordion. These days the bigger challenge may be finding a sufficiently strong teacher to carry the avid learner through to the end.

Happy Music, Well Performed
If you're a fan of any sort of Alpine music, this album will fit in your collection. Mostly instrumental and seriously focused on the steirische Harmonika as musical centerpiece, these songs had me humming along and tapping my toes after the first run-through.
Recording and production values are high. The music is clear, without significant background on any track.
I'll be looking for many more such quality recordings in the near future...

Pageflip Firefly: Rugged, Reliable, and Easy to Use
The Firefly Page Turner is a wonderful device for hands-free turning of music pages; that's what I use it for, though it will work on any PDF or similar file on your iPad, iPhone, or other Bluetooth-enabled device.
The unit is rugged, trouble-free, and has plenty of options for page changes: Up-Down, Left-Right and more. I found it to be ridiculously easy to pair this unit with my iPad. I simply got the iPad ready to pair (about 4 steps), then turned the Firefly on and pushed the Bluetooth Reset button on the side. Bingo! Paired and ready.
I've used this device to turn pages inside my Kindle app and forScore app, where my music resides. So easy to use, and with really quick response.
I own other page turners, but I rely on my Firefly. It's a bit more expensive than others, but reliability and ruggedness matter when you're playing for a big audience.
