Accurate description of contents
As a doctoral candidate with a thesis of Neurofeedback for PTSD Symptom Reduction, I am preparing the literature review which requires a history of PTSD, treatment strategies, and neurofeedback. William Kelly brings together a broad overview of PTSD and treatment strategies from the 1980's with a predominant focus on veterans of Vietnam. He indicates that despite the differences between the soldiers who returned from the two World Wars (coming home to heros welcomes) and the soldiers who returned from Vietnam (and the anti-war sentiment of the nation), the phenomena of war neuroses aka PTSD has similar effects upon warriors from wars of different eras. The phenomena of PTSD does not emerge only from the modern wars of the 20th and 21st century. The phenomena is reported in the literature of William Shakespeare, and the ancient Greek stories such as the ten year Trojan War. This book is a dense reading, information packed, useful piece of historical literature regarding PTSD and treatment practices.
