Electric Bench Drill Press Stand Mini Drilling Machine Adjustable Angle & Speed
Nov 13, 2019
An excellent 8" drill press for metalworking
I don't normally write reviews, but this press has pleasantly surprised me enough to write one. Overall an outstanding value. The head is very true to the column, as best I can tell. No cost-cutting: all the surfaces that should have been milled (table, foot, etc) are milled, not ground. I have not yet trammed the table to the spindle, because the machine was ostensibly square right out of the box, and insofar I have used it to drill thin steel, so precise alignment wasn't necessary. I mounted the press on a grinder pedestal, with a hardwood spacer. The knobs on the handles were junk, so I replaced them with good-quality ball knobs (M8 thread). I also replaced the chuck with a superior one that I had lying around. The spindle is extremely stable, spins true, holds bits dead center (note: part of this may be due to the chuck replacement, though the old chuck was also good enough in this regard). Start and stop is nearly instantaneous. I like the side buttons better than the front toggle on many other presses. The front of the head has an oldschool metal plaque on it, which looks nice. The paint job is also well-done, which always seems to be a hallmark of quality. No appreciable vibration during operation. Reasonable speed range, definitely suited for metal. The spindle vertical movement feels gritty, but that's a matter of comfort, and does not seem to affect performance. If you're trying to decide between this press and an 8" WEN (4208), I'd recommend this one: it has a lower minimal speed, which is very important.
RYOBI 18V Cordless Hybrid WHISPER SERIES 7-1/2 in. Fan (Tool Only)

A good, strong, portable fan that runs off of Ryobi 18v batteries. It can also run from grid power, which is nice, but that defeats the purpose of eliminating extension cords. I purchased this to remedy the summer heat while doing automotive repairs. Battery life seems good even with the single-stack batteries. One aspect which I don't like is that the fan power switch (a rotary mode selector) goes from off to high, then medium and low. But that's only a minor nuisance, and must be for a reason.

Decent, affordable webcam
Bought this Hercules Dualpix Exchange after researching a few other webcams. For the performance, the price is all right. Has high ratings on Newegg. The camera has no automatic focus, as the specifications state - the ring has to be adjusted by hand; it's a smooth ring, flush to the chassis, which makes that difficult. Not much of a concern though - this is a webcam, after all, and many webcams with autofocus tend to do that annoying focus adjustment thing frequently. The camera captures 30 fps video at widescreen resolution, from what I've seen so far. Resolution could be a little better, but it's all right for the price. Finally, there's the plastic stand/clamp; in my opinion, this is weakest feature of the camera, could have been done much better. Not to say that it's not workable, or flimsy - but it's hard to attach firmly. Bundled software is workable, but I don't like it. No concern at all, of course: if you don't like what's bundled, get some third-party softs or freeware. Camera doesn't require drivers to function. Overall, a nice webcam. If you're a beginner - just looking to play around with BlogTV or YouTube, or transfix this camera onto an office coffee maker - this is a safe gamble for your money. Don't break the bank with a high-end Logitech or Creative Labs unit if you're just starting off with webcasting; but if you're experienced, looking for a hardware upgrade, you might want to move on to the likes of the aforementioned high-end units.
