Review of PZ-E1 on the Canon 70D with Canon EF-S 18-135 Nano IS USM lens.
When used on my Canon 70-D, I like the smooth, quiet zooming that the PZ-E1 achieves with the 18-135 IS USM lens. It also attaches and comes off easily. I anticipate that it will be a staple in future short film shoots as it certainly beats manual zooming.
I have no way of telling how much battery life I will get out of the four AAA alkaline batteries required to power the PZ-E1. But a preliminary look suggests that battery life will be excellent once field tested.
I have two minor complaints: sometimes, I have to power my 70D off and on to get the PZ-E1 to function. Also, I was hoping that the "Slow" zoom setting would actually be slower than it is.
I have a new Canon 80D camera in the box so will check those two concerns as soon as possible. It may be better because apparently the 18-135 IS USM lens was desgined with the 80D in mind and they are being sold as companion sets in the kit.
I urge Canon to design and build other lenses for use with the PZ-E1.
