Bushnell Trophy 4-12x40 SF a versatile winner
2 of 2 found this helpful I have seven 4-12 Trophy scopes and 3 of the similar Trophy 4-15x40AO scopes spanning manufacture from 1996 to 2017. The earlier scopes were made in Japan. They all are very versatile scopes as they are not too big for a .22 LR firearm, work on a centerfire rifle, and can stand the rigors of the double recoil a spring piston airgun (more demanding than a high powered rifle). Early 4-12x40AO scopes were fully coated and were very sharp, but do not transmit light and minimize internal reflections the way the B&L Balvar scopes did. Later Trophy versions were multicoated and recently fully multicoated. I've been told that the new Trophies have the 91% transmission of the previous Bushnell Legend line. Earlier 4-12 trophy scopes had a finer duplex reticle than more recent ones. I've shot many 1 hole groups on magnum spring piston airguns with all but the recent Trophy scopes (not tested yet) and the scopes have ALL stood up very well. The recent Trophy 4-12x40SF is brighter than the older 1996 ones, but I haven't used them enough to see how well they hold up. Another great advantage of the 4-12 Trophy scopes is that the AO focuses down to just under 10 yards which is critical for indoor airgun shooting. I prefer my 4-12 Trophy scopes to my older Leupold 3-9x33AO EFR scopes which are not as bright (33 vs 40mm objective) or sharp. The Trophy 4-12 has a wider field of view than most 3-9x scopes. Considering the bargain price, I rate the Trophy 4-12 x 40 AO scope a best buy. The SF version made in Korea is just as bright and sharp, but I don't have enough rounds through it yet to be certain that it is as good as the earlier Japan versions. DrJ

Interim review is positive. I need to use the 220EX more
I bought the Canon 220EX for my Canon 7D because the built in flash has limited range. I bought this compact flash over the inexpensive, versatile but bigger Yongnuo models as I would be more likely to have the 220EX in my camera bag. The flash is quite powerful, and works every time. My only reservation so far is that it tends to slightly overexpose photos taken within about 7 feet (~2 m) on any setting I've tried. I need to experiment more. Cycle time is fast enough and I even took a good bounce flash photo by putting a white card at a 45 degree angle to the flash in a room with a low ceiling. I may increase the rating to 5 stars with more experience. drj3253

Superb lens for indoor sports and candid portraits. Great image quality.
1 of 1 found this helpful I like primes and have the Canon 85mm f1.8 USM and the Canon EF 100 f2.8 macro (non USM). I have not been happy with the 85/1.8 because of occasional rear focus wide open. I bought the Canon 100mm f2.0 used for a good price and the seller claimed excellent mechanical & optical condition. I immediately noticed many fine scratches on the objective lens and was miffed. I did a preliminary test of the lens on my outdoor test range and was very impressed with the sharpness and contrast, even at f2.0. I pointed the lens towards the sun to create flare, but as yet I have not discerned the scratches in large crops of the photos. More tests to come. It is sharper than my 85/1.8 and at least as sharp as my 100/2.8 macro. It certainly is in the class of my Canon 70-200 f4L at 100mm and my copy is a good one. From my tests so farm this will be a go-to lens for indoor sports and candid portraits. I gave it a perfect rating. drj3253
