A History and NOT a Pictorial History
This is an excellent academic book on ocean liner interior design based on archival research. Readers should be warned, however, to read the book subtitle carefully. It clearly states: "A History of Interior Design Afloat" and not "A Pictorial History of Interior Design Afloat." Thus, if you are looking for glossy pictures of the fabulous interiors of classic liners, look elsewhere. However, if you are interested in the social and corporate context of ship interior design and in the names and careers of mostly unheralded ship interior designers to accompany and supplement the glossy pictures in those other books published by ocean-liner aficionados, then this is the book for you! I found it fascinating.

Devils on The Deep Blue Sea
A must read for those who like to go on sea cruises and who are interested in the history of the industry - detailed yet entertaining. Decided to buy it based on a book review.
