Moving Tribute to all who fought in Iraq
So moving to see the photos from the tragedy of a war which took the life of one of my former students. It is a real keepsake seeing him in Fallujah so happy on what were the last days of his life.

On Bended Knees by Bill Cunningham (1996, Hardcover)
Excellent, entertaining, factual account of the tobacco wars of the early 1900's. It is the story of the Duke family's attempt to control the market, and the reaction of tobacco farmers in western Kentucky and Tennessee to that threat to their livelihood. Judge Cunningham has combined research and recollections into a most fascinating story. His ancestors and mine were involved, and I learned much from his writings. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in history, tobacco, Kentucky, the Duke family, or simply the struggles created by the competition a desire for money generates.
