smart cat can cheat it
5 of 6 found this helpful Works almost as advertized, but here's a catch: there's a separate detector for the chip's proximity and a separate detector for "something in the feeder frame". For my two cats it works this way: the authorized cat eats her food, then sits right next to the feeder and starts washing. This is when the unauthorized cat comes in, puts her head into the frame and the feeder goes "oh, auth chip is nearby and someone tries to eat - OPEN THE GATE!"
So I had to add some stuff around the feeder to avoid this situation. Still, it made my entire life onw that cat doesn't have to wake me day and night asking for the next portion of food.
