Not Good
I put this uv filter on my new Tamron 150-600. Looking at the pictures I noticed the background was rippled or like a washboard. I thought that it might be normal for the lens or maybe caused by my old D7000. On a hunch I removed the uv filter. WOW! What a difference! Don't ruin your lens with this filter. It won't ruin every picture but it will ruin a lot of them.

EF-S 17-85 IS USM
3 of 3 found this helpful I have found the perfect lens to leave on my SL1. This lens is light, the zoom is smooth, the IS works very well and my pictures are really sharp. There are some really good newer ef-s lenses like the 18-55 is stm, 18-135 is stm but I like this old lens better. The range is perfect for in the house and out in the yard. However, if you shoot movies the STM lens is better. So, if your budget is tight and you want good really good pictures I'd recommend this lens.

Small
Really lightens the load. Great lens in a small package. Feels solid and well built. Beautiful pictures. You can spend more money but you won't get better pictures. Won't get into the optics. There are web sites dedicated to that sort of thing.
