pH Alerts (three of them) failed or 'froze' within 2 days
1 of 1 found this helpful The concept behind these is great and indeed the ammonia indicator works well but I had serious problems with the pH Alerts.
The first one 'froze' on me three days after placing in my main tank. Initially, it indicated the proper pH color as being 7.5, which I verified with my pH test kits. But suddenly, on the third day of use, it's color turned yellowish...to a color not at all on it's 'color wheel'. My tank's pH remained consistent at 7.5, however. I removed it and verified it was frozen on this color by subjecting the pH Alert to mildly acidic and basic solutions, to which it did not react at all. After writing to Seachem about this issue, I was sent two replacements with the thought being that mine was defective. However, both replacements failed in the same manner as the original within two days.
Given that the pH Alerts work for so many others, this must have something to do with my tank's chemistry, and the good folks at Seachem and I are still trying to figure this out. It is nothing obvious.
Bottom line: if the pH Alerts work for you, this is a fantastic product. I gave it 3 stars based on my experience and the fact that the Ammonia alert works, but I'd give it five otherwise.

Will blind oncoming traffic...
These are bright and cheap, however they will blind oncoming traffic if using a reflector-style headlight, regardless of being set to high or low beam. This is because of the placement of the COB LEDs on the stalk (and the length of them) with respect to the reflector. I was unaware of the importance of these factors when I purchased them and upon installation, found I could not adjust the headlight housing so as to not cast a very wide, high, and long beam. After reading up on how reflector housing depend upon a very specific and exact placement of the bulb filament(s) to achieve a properly cast beam, I could easily see how the LEDs in these were far out of alignment to where halogen filaments would be with respect to the reflector. As a result, the focal length(s) could never be right and the beam could never be focused. There is a lot of good information on this all over the internet. I bought a more expensive LED headlight pair that nailed the placement of the LEDS (in conjunction with blinders) and I finally achieved a beam pattern with them that was as focused and controlled as the original halogen bulbs.

Flimsy enclosure with no sleep mode
This flimsy enclosure appears originally meant for one-time mass-assembly in that once you install a drive into it, it's shell simply snaps together (no screws) after which it is nearly impossible to open it back up without breaking off the snap tabs that secure the enclosure shell pieces together.
But perhaps the worst problem I had with it is that it's included controller does not provide a sleep or auto power-down mode. Your drive will stay spinning as long as power is applied. Most enclosures include a controller that will allow the drive to sleep (spin-down) after a certain amount of time of non-use or when the USB connection to them is removed or powered-down. For a full-time connected drive, you want this feature to save wear and tear on the drive and to also save power. This faulty behavior was verified when the vendor sent me a replacement controller board that had the same issue, meaning that the problem is inherit in the design.
I would recommend this enclosure for a drive that is only occasionally connected to power / USB with a specific task in mind and then disconnected and stored.
