Open Box is for all intent and purpose, brand new.
The 'open box' model came indistinguishable from brand new. The display, thumb reader, and shelving all still had protective plastic on it. Bag of goodies was sealed.

0 of 1 found this helpful Seeing as how nobody seems to have reviewed this, I'll try to shed some light.
For starters, this unit is much smaller than the pictures seem to show (13" x 5" x 5"). It is also a fairly heavy unit for its small size, comprising a very sturdy metal box where you can see the numerous copper heat pipes leading into the heat sink that the two large fans blow through. Even the cap on top is metal.
Controls are fairly straight forward. There is a power button, a button to set desired temperature, a button to switch between C/F, and a button to turn off the backlight on the two-line LED. To make it 'smart,' I recommend a smart plug so you can turn it on and off by voice.
It is a very effective cooler, and even at minimal settings, it will be enough to cool you to the point where a very hot sleeper would still need to have it on a timer so you wouldn't wake up cold in the middle of the night. Very quite operations, and very high well made. I can stand on it and be fairly certain that this thing won't break. I ended up getting the refurbished one it was indecipherable from new. Just from looking at it, I know that this one is probably much better quality than the 'classic' one, and I'm sure it will be a worthy investment for anyone looking to cool their bed for the summer :)
