Great Cookbook
If you like to entertain and you love Louisiana food, then you've got to have this cookbook. Beware, though, that no consideration to low fat was given when these recipes were compiled! They're full of butter and cream, indicative of French cooking, which has had a huge impact on Louisiana foods.
Celebrations on the Bayou is a publication of the Junior League of Monroe, Inc. One would think this group would have had a hard time trumping their first cookbook, Cotton Country, which should be a staple in every Southern kitchen, and while Celebrations isn't necessarily better, it's equally as good. I haven't tried every recipe, of course, but I have made a number of the dishes in this cookbook, and they were all wonderful. Among my favorites are the "Chilled Raspberry Soup," "Creole Cream Cheese Mold with Minted Fresh Fruit," "Crab Bisque," and "Hummingbird Cake." This cookbook has a traditional index (hallelujah!), menu suggestions, and delightful, full-color photographs of tablescapes. Its internal spiral binding allows it to open flat. Although its focus is on entertaining, you'll find many of the recipes suitable for special family meals. This is one of my favorite personal cookbooks and one I often give as a gift.

Very Good Book!
3 of 3 found this helpful I would actually rate this book a 4½. As always, Wiggs delivers wonderfully delineated characters woven into a perfectly executed plot and writes with wisdom and sensitivity. However, this story dragged a bit to me, probably because a good portion of it takes place on an island with just the hero and heroine. Perhaps if I were into horses, I would have enjoyed that part more. Nonetheless, it's still a very good to excellent read, a book that will not disappoint. But then, Wiggs never fails to satisfy.
