Really not a lot to say
An American icon spans his career from his brash beginnings of girls and street life with music as his escape through his redemptive and mature connection to our world on just about every level possible. What a journey. What a band.

Beatles unplugged
The disc is a compilation of outtakes and early versions of the classic album. It has that very stark unpolished feel yet you know what the final crafted songs will sound like. For example, the extended medley on the back is included in its original form with Her Majesty in the middle and not tagged on at the end. It is a work in progress look at the Bealtes with (mostly) John and Paul fooling around/refining what was gradually becoming (with overdubs and double tracks) the album you know and love. Remarkable to feel like you are in the studio watching them record/change and change back songs that you know so well.

Rough weather smooth Spencer
As with each of the Spencer books, our American living legend Parker sets up the conflict quickly and uses his spare prose to move the story as Spencer navigates through a series of clues to solve the crime. His deadly antagonist Rugar is back, serving again as Spencer's formidable and deadly opponent.
On the light side, Spencer and Susan engage in their usual intimate double entendre conversations in the midst of the hunt for the murderer who apparently did not go "by the book" in planning out the crime. Parker ties it all together with Spencer's cynical outlook, softened only by his relationship with Susan, and the fact that he doesn't take himself too seriously despite knowing he is the best at what he does.
For those who have not read the Spencer series, I recommend starting with "Thin Air" (read by David Dukes) and moving forward. Like Ed McBain and the 87th precinct cops, you appreciate Parker through his wonderful characters and it's nice to spend time with them. There is a strong echo of Hammett's "Thin Man" in Parker's writing, and because his characters are so fully realized, the stories, including this one, always keep you engaged.
