Syren Song

The Model Shipways US Brig Syren is a very nice model. Good materials with spares for some of the most fragile parts. When I started the USS Confederacy I thought the basswood (limewood) was a cheap material but after working with it for a while I completely changed my mind. It is a first rate material for ship modeling. Easily worked, sands down very smooth and is easily stained or painted if desired. The Syren is made from the same material. The supplied timber is dimentionally consistent with straight grain. There are a lot of sizes so you need a set of calipers to measure it. The instructions recommend using some keel stiffeners which are not supplied so if you decide to use them you need to get some extra material (I used some 25x25mm wood from the hardware store). The secret is taking your time, measure twice and cut once. Let the glue from the previous step dry before starting the next step. Afterall for most of us this is fun not work so making it last extends the fun. Highly recommended.

Good colours, reasonable price

Pros: Prints well, has strong colours, good bed adhesion, nice colours Cons: The product photo would suggest a short distance between colour changes. That "pot" must be solid as the distance between changes is far greater than is suggested.

PLA marble, good product.

Very good. Prints on my normal PLA settings. Looks good, feels good. A bit lighter in colour than some marbles I've seen but it is still effective
