Invasion of Astro-Monster (1965) / Godzilla Vs. Monster Zero (1970) DVD Toho

    Planet X
This is such a fun entry into the series. It all starts with the discovery of Planet X, just beyond Jupiter. That causes the World Space Organization to send a ship, with astronauts Fuji and Glenn aboard to investigate. They find people there, and King Ghidorah, fresh of his defeat at the hands of Godzilla, Rodan and Mothra. The inhabitants ask to "borrow" Godzilla and Rodan to fight the menace, but it's a ruse and soon the aliens are trying to take over Earth to steal that precious water which, unbeknownst to people in the 1960s, is actually plentiful in our solar system. OK, so the plot is ludicrous but fun, the ship designs are all cool, it features some interesting costumes and sets, and of course great music by the one and only Akira Ifukube. The monster action is great, though I would have liked more of that, and the humans and aliens in the plot aren't bad. All told, it's a great movie, and it gave us something you'll either love or hate: Godzilla's victory dance on Planet X. Fun fact: In the two pack with the English and Japanese versions, no matter which version you watch, someone is being dubbed, but not everyone. Nick Adams spoke English the whole time, despite everyone else speaking Japanese. So, for the Japanese release, they dubbed over him with someone speaking Japanese. Conversely, he's the only one that didn't get dubbed over for the American release. So, if you watch the American version, you're actually hearing Nick Adams speak, while everyone else is dubbed over.
1S Battery Holder Case Clip Box for 1X 18650 3.7V Li-Ion with 6" Wire Leads USA

It Does What You Want It To
It holds an 18650 battery. That's all it needs to do. It's pre-wired, which is nice. I usually buy the ones that aren't pre-wired. Not only that, but the wires are stripped and pre-tinned on the ends. It holds the battery tightly, so no worries about it falling out. However, I plan to rig a ribbon to more easily take the battery out when I build what I'm planning build with this holder. The plastic seems to be the same plastic you usually see on these things, and should last a long time. Lastly, the price was great.

One of My Favorite Godzilla Films
This was the very first Godzilla film I ever saw, some afternoon on TV back in the late '80s. I've liked it ever since then. The main characters are fun, the story doesn't drag and the fight between Godzilla and Ebirah isn't too long or drawn out, like a lot of the later Showa era Godzilla fights were. The musical score is nice and fits the film. All told, it's a fun flick to watch. The DVD from Kraken Releasing is a really nice product. The picture looks great (upscaled to 1080p) and the audio is crisp. I really enjoyed having both English and Japanese (subtitled) audio tracks on the same disc. I chose to watch the movie in Japanese as I've always seen it dubbed before, and I found it even more enjoyable. Even though the English version is pretty much a straight dub, the voices usually don't match the characters. Hearing the actors' real voices makes it seem more real to me. Also, the DVD includes the original Japanese theatrical trailer, which is cool. All told, this is a great disc, a fun film and a must have for any Showa era Godzilla fan.
