This affordable tester will help you decide whether to replace your car/caravan/boat battery
This clever tester measures the "conductance" of your battery using a low frequency alternating current and then displays the result in terms of CCA (Cold Cranking Amps), which are a measure of the ability of the battery to supply enough current to start your engine on a cold day.
This method of testing batteries is arguably one of the most convenient and safest ways to decide whether a car battery needs replacing.
This particular tester will give adequate results for car batteries despite being much cheaper than the industry standard tester used by many garages. It can also be used to indicate whether leisure batteries and marine batteries have significant problems such as faulty cells or bad sulphation.
Good points: affordable, small and lightweight; very easy to use, can test battery "in situ"; powered by the battery being tested.
Limitations: Doesn't indicate actual conductance value (converts it to CCA); only works on 6v and 12v lead acid batteries (although it appears to have a 24v mode); results require careful interpretation when testing leisure and marine batteries.

Tough clever camera for outdoor people
1 of 1 found this helpful INTRODUCTION
This is a camera for people who want a pictorial record of serious outdoor activities
but for whom photography is not the main thing.
Olympus have used their optical experience and clever software to make a camera
on which you can take good pictures in almost all circumstances without being an
expert photographer.
Basically this is a very advanced "point and shoot" in a shock and water resistant
casing.
WHY I PURCHASED THIS CAMERA.
I take photographs on walking holidays and need a camera that can be used in wet
weather. For me the underwater capability is overkill but re-assuring.
I LIKE
Weather resistance;
Flat lens protector;
Clear menus;
Wider than usual angle at short end of zoom range (25mm to 100mm equivalent);
Choice of spot or area metering, exposure compensation, white balance and ISO
adjustments;
Good image quality, even in low light;
Accurate auto focus with ability to select fixed focussing area;
Image stabilisation ;
Bright screen;
Pocket size;
Fast GPS acquisition;
At long last, Olympus have started using SD cards
MY DISAPPOINTMENTS
To be fair, the things that disappoint me about this camera are the result of perfectly
reasonable design decisions, given the intended market. These comments relate to
my particular use of the camera.
The camera doesn't have an optical viewfinder. This is understandable as how
would you use it underwater? I find framing the shot with a screen difficult.
The mode functions differ from some other Olympus cameras. "Auto" provides
automatic camera settings based on scene detection. "Program" is equivalent to the
old "Auto". There is no mode in which you can manually select aperture or shutter
speed. This may avoid selecting combinations that would show up camera
weaknesses, but it is frustrating as some manual control could easily have been
included in the software.
Inevitably the controls are small.
GPS can't display grid references. (technically difficult)
MY EXPERIENCE OF USING THE CAMERA.
At around 230g, the camera was quite heavy for its size. I found it easiest to
hold with two hands, thumbs on the base and index fingers on the top. However,
you have to be careful not to cover the stereo microphone if using video. It is all too
easy for middle fingers to stray in front of the lens. The controls were easy to use. It
was possible to use one handed. You can switch on a grid display which helps with
picture composition and getting horizons straight.
In all cases that I tried, this camera produces high image quality for the conditions. I
was able to take action shots of surfers late in the afternoon on the shortest day and
hand held pictures of Christmas lights.
I was pleased with how fast the GPS locked on to the satellites. Also, it found an
obscure local landmark within 200m - impressive for a world camera. Apparently,
the database can't be updated, which is a pity.
Being a small camera there are some relatively delicate parts requiring care in use.
These include hatches for the battery compartment and cable connections, the
plastic tripod socket and lanyard attachment point.
MY VERDICT
A very well designed camera capable of excellent results which I would definitely
recommend for the intended use.

Useful long range telephoto zoom with good image quality
1 of 2 found this helpful Why I bought it.
I bought this lens because I wanted a long range zoom telephoto lens to add to my Olympus four-thirds system.
What I like about it.
The image quality is generally good and can be very good when stopped down a bit. Given the telephoto range, it’s a compact and light weight lens.
It is reasonably cheap for an Olympus four thirds lens
It has a metal mount and is supplied with a lens hood.
It is light enough to hand hold when used with image stabilised camera bodies.
Compromises that I can live with.
This lens is not part of the Olympus HQ range and is not splash proof.
At full zoom when wide open, the image quality drops to merely adequate.
At f/4.0-5.6, it’s a slow lens.
The one I bought does not have a tripod fitting collar.
How does it compare?
This lens is capable of some very good images. It is comparable to the very good 40-150mm f/4.0-F5.6 kit lens. The build and image quality is not as good as the considerably more expensive 50-200mm f/2.8-3.5 HQ lens.
