1 of 1 found this helpful Don't know why Microsoft made a new USB hub, this docking station is the best thing ever. To simply plug in my Surface Pro 3 and have it charge and connected to peripherals with a click is amazing. It also looks more professional than a dongle with cords to the side.
The base is weighted properly to allow poking at the screen without tilting the base over. The Type Cover and the base are actually compatible since the cover doesn't block the base.

1 of 1 found this helpful Although it is supposed to be essentially plug and play, it is only in as far as you plug it in and it has power. There are known issues with the Xbox One not immediately recognizing the enclosure as having a hard drive in it. I even had an unfortunate event that forced me to re-format my drive and re-install in a clean state and allow the Xbox to re-format it again in the Xbox storage file system.
Price? Way out of control. I honestly would not have purchased this if not for a coupon I had from eBay. This in no way looks nor feels like a $40 item. It's simply a giant plastic rectangle shaped to match the side of the Xbox One. A small silver looking piece matches the Xbox One's sync button to not remove from the aesthetics. With a big space in the middle for a hard drive, this is simply just shaped plastic. Without a hard drive, it becomes nothing more than a USB 3.0 hub (a hub without a 5V adapter to really give USB 3.0 power ratings mind you).
Does the Xbox One truly need a 3.0 hub? Not really. You already get 3 ports, and seeing how each port in the 3.0 standard can easily handle more than one thing attached, this seems like a neat thought with minimal use. The fact it has 3 ports facing forward to me is a huge design no-no. How horrid it is to see those 3 wholes break up the seamless look of the Xbox One's front panel. You can easily purchase USB 3.0 hubs for less than this and hide all the cables and attached devices in a cabinet.
They claim that there is passive cooling of the hard drive, but for the price, they could of included at lease a small fan in the housing. The hard drive essentially sits right in front the intake screen for the console, I know there has to be some diminished ventilation.
Again, I bought it mainly for the hard drive enclosure aspect. As such, it kinda has failed twice. First, the system didn't immediately recognize my existing drive. And again when it made me have to format the drive.
If you want a nice enclosure that meshes with the console, I suggest you either wait until a price drop, or purchase it with some sort of means to drop the price. Never pay full price for this item. When a USB 3.0 hub can cost just shy of $20, and the plastic body I can see perhaps being an added $10 cost, this item is currently overpriced by at least $10, maybe $12. The fact that you need to buy a 5V adapter to use the hub to charge either headsets or controllers (it won't handle the power draw without the adapter), which adds another $6-$10 depending on quality, you ultimately pay almost $50 for this "media" hub. For $40, they could of at least justified it with the adapter being included or built in.
