Shines when you can also recondition a battery
I also have a charger the can recondition a battery, and you can check ca and cca before and after a cycle to see if the desufonation is making progress. It's quite the party trick with other people's cars, too, especially here in az where batteries can look good on voltmeters but be close to dead in real life.

Very good summary of the history of the e24
I have the other 'Gold' type books, and they are great, as they are time capsules of the car and how it was perceived in its day. They have the different journalist reviews and write ups and side by side comparisons and they track a BMW series as it evolves.
This book is a bit different. It gives more if the history of the design philosophy and culture at BMW, the history of the earlier 3.0, the constraints of the seventies and eighties automotive landscapes, competitive analysis, regulatory pressures, the evolution from the e12 based to e28 based platforms, and the rise of Motorsports. The e24 straddled BMWs rise from the up and coming (2002 and e21 era company) to the arrived corporate entity, to the e34 and onward. As such it's history as BMWs coupe flagship mirrors and illustrates BMW itself.
There's a lot in this book about the personalities and players in the BMW-verse..no automotive book can be complete without Bob Lutz, but here we also learn of Max Hoffman, and Paul Braque, author of many great seventies designs, including the M1. If any car tipped the balance toward US influence on Bavaria it was the e24. This is a crafted read, and if you like the cars, you will enjoy this view into BMW's golden era. You might even buy one. A manual. Watch for rust. The later ones are better.
