Excellent Adaptation of John Steinbeck's Book
Set in old Monterey, California around 1910 this is the story of a group of ne'er do wells who devote their lives to drinking wine and avoiding work. One of them, Danny Alvarez, inherits two houses in Tortilla Flats. It changes their lives and challenges their morals. If you've read the book you'll enjoy revisiting it through these movies. If you haven't read the book you can let this movie introduce you to the characters, then read the book for a richer version of the story you've just seen. If you're familiar with John Steinbeck's work you don't need my review to tell you anything. If you're not familiar with John Steinbeck you have a real treat in store and this movie is a fine gateway to get you started.
