Logitech Full size LASER Wireless Mouse M310 BLACK with NANO receiver A
    Jul 25, 2018
Excellent value for the desktop user.
I bought this to use with my main desktop computer and to replace an older Logitech mouse which had a worn scroll wheel. This is described as a"full-size" mouse. It fits nicely in the hand and has a decent weight. My previous mouse was a V450 which is heavier, but I think the M310 is OK. My main operating system is Linux, and I use openSuse on both the desktop and on my main laptop. Logitech is the only manufacturer with whom I have had no trouble. The only issue I have had is that the new Unifying system has utilities for Linux, so if you need to change the pairing you will need a Windows PC.
The Big Battleship Richard Hough Hardback 1st edition

How a South American arms race brought Turkey into WW1.
Most histories of Naval Warfare can be very dry and narrowly focused. This book is not like that. Richard Hough wrote this in the mod-1960s, when some of "those who were there" were still alive, so it relies on first hand accounts. It is in a very accessible style which makes it a lively read. The best histories are those which add context to the story, so this book takes you through not only the mad arms race in South American, but also the conflict between Greece and Turkey, and the competition between the UK, France, Germany and the US to sell arms around the world. It goes into some detail about the German support for the Young Turks faction in order to bring Turkey to their side, and suggests that Churchill's dismissal of Turkey enabled this to happen. But one of the most important aspect of this book, and one that I had forgotten about (I first read it in the mid-70s!) is the way it talks about the hardships endured by the shipyard workers. This was a time before the NHS, and the safety net of unemployment benefits. If there was no work, there was no pay. Families would starve without the charities running soup kitchens. Reading this book again reminded me again how lucky I was to grow up in the UK in the 50s and 60s, and now that I am entering old age, the Social Services have made my live so much easier than it could have been. This book is not just a story about the strange origins and history of HMS Agincourt, it is also a fascinating glimpse into the lives of the protagonists and world they lived in. I have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone interested in not just the history of the Royal Navy, but of Britain and the world of the first decads of the 20th Century.

I like this device and bought it because it requires no screws or special tools. If I need to replace any more HDDs with SSDs I will have to get some more.
