Replace or Repair
There come a time in the life of any device when the question to repair or replace occurs. In the case of the UMX device the first thing to go was the battery after a number of year of abuse. This battery is not the cheapest 1500mAh battery around but it is the cheapest one that fits inside this device and the price was reasonable. Installation is a delicate affair and best handled by someone with good skill but doable. The bottom line is the unit works fine now and holds a charge for days rather than hours and I don't have to call my ISP about changing devices.

Good blower . . . BUT
So here is the 411 on this blower.
Powerful and quiet BUT the trigger needs a redesign.
The trigger does control the speed of the blower and there is a separate adjustable lock knob.
The problem is the lock knob locks the minimum throttle setting. What it should do is limit the top end that the throttle reaches.
The lock knob can lock the throttle to the full on position and with the thrust this unit possesses it can potentially move under its own power.
Also, by not limiting the upper side of the throttle with the lock knob, the user is required to have a death grip on the trigger if they want anything but the highest output. This has the effect of causing the blower to surge.
I own two other electric blowers and both have top end limits on their throttles. They are way easier to control and I believe have longer battery lives due to avoiding the surge effect this blower exhibits.

OEM quality: A bit dusty.
The boots are original OEM replacement boots. They appear to be in good condition considering their age. In the past I have used universal replacement boots, which lasted for only about 13,000 miles. I expect these OEM’s to last considerably longer.
