ITS A FLAME THROWER! NO IT JUST RUNS HOT.
I've been using the T410 for five or six years now, Pretty much bullet proof and easy to repair. I bought one without a hard drive recently for spare parts, but it turned out to have the better processor, NVIDIA graphics, and higher resolution screen, and very little usage, so I just brought the memory and hard drive over. Runs Win 10 and my programs just fine. Use it more frequently than my T460, unless I need the battery for extended period, which is 10 hours for the T460 and how fast can I get to an outlet for the T420. No question the T420 runs hot, especially with NVIDIA, I put a bamboo cutting board under it so my thighs don't fry. But you can warm your hands on the exhaust port in the winter time. Chief complaints: 1. Battery life sucks. 2. If you use it while sitting, the power adapter cord at the computer plug-in will short out sooner than later, reinforce the connection with some Sugru right now.. This is the voice of a man who bought three AC adapters before connecting dots. 3. Do not pick it up by the screen bezel, it will crack and ruin the display (2 for 2). 4. Don't eat over it, the crumbs get under the keys and even though you can pry them off to clean it, they don't always go back on like you'ld like. Gently vacuum if you must eat crackers over it.
Cheap and durable, and you can still get them off lease and sometimes hardly used. Easy to repair as well if you insist on lifting it by the bezel or eating crackers on it. Just buy a whole unit, not parts.
