Glad I bought it, a good value!
2 of 2 found this helpful Other than buying a Lionel 44 ton post war switcher, this was my second experience at buying a used Lionel product. The engine and accompanying cars are attractive in themselves and need in most cases some minor cosmetic clean up work. I was finally able to get the engine running after removing the shell and working with the the top lever that manually controls running the engine forwards and backwards. The main light lit up immediately and increased in brightness as I increased power. For the most part it seemed to run pretty well though it abruptly stopped in two places probably indicating it needed a new rubber tire. There were only 2 "negatives" that I found. First the trucks on the freight cars were plastic and not metal indicating that during the period of the 1970s Lionel had cheapened its product line to make it more competitive. Also the engine had one motor and not two and there was no hint of Lionel's installing "magnatraction" ( a quality feature that built the Lionel brand into the leader in its field. The only thing I was majorly disappointed with the amount of rust on the engine metal base but have done research now and have found out how to get the rust spots removed. All in all though I am pleased with this purchase and it will have a special place on my layout around Fourth of July, Labor and Memorial Days too. (It will remind my of the 29 years I taught American History to middle, junior and senior high schoolers). Thank you. FH

Really interesting freight car and captures the attention of those who love "Twizzlers"
Working for 7 years directly for Hershey Chocolate Company in eastern Iowa as one of their field sales reps. in the late 70s-mid 80s, I sold ALOT of "Twizzlers" to wholesale and retail outlets, vendors and distributors too. (Though no such car would actually exist along with other K-Line Hershey freight cars like "Reese Pieces", etc. it still fun for kids of all ages to see a car like this go around a club layout at shows and other functions). It is a highly detailed car and represents great Lionel quality!
