The New Class War enables an understanding of the mechanics of super-wealth generation, and the political strategies in response to inequality.
The New Class War, by Michael Lind, describes the mechanics of the 10X rule by which certain products or companies become market super-stars. The proprietors and backers of the startup become financially wealthy, almost beyond comprehension. The owners of hedge funds are seeking such startups, which will be worth more than the combined value of all other companies in the fund. The Benjamin Graham portfolio investment method has been cast aside in favor of finding a single company that puts forth a product or service that is ten-times better than the competition. At the 10x-level, the firm has the ability to create a near-monopoly in the marketplace, thus creating massive wealth for the owners. Monopolies matter more the the economics theories of educated consumers aware of purchasing choices. Lind considers the implications and potential responses of a society to 10x generated wealth.
In addition, Lind expounds upon the method by which the the political left & right have different strategies for coping with wealth disparity. The growing tendency by the left to seek redress in the court system precludes the necessity of building political coalitions to effect long-term lasting change. Lind believes that this horizontal approach has weakened the ability of democrats to govern. On the other hand, the right has become adept at building political coalitions for a variety of issues, from the grassroots in small towns, to the halls of congress. This vertical approach to politics seems to proved more effective for the republicans than has the strategy of the left for the democrats.
In summary, the author's writing in chapter 7 alone, is worth the price of the book.
