Snaps right away!
This stand snapped at the base where you screw it in the very first time I tried to place a 70lb doll on it for display in the store. It was a total waste of money and did not last ten seconds from when I assembled it. I screwed it in tightly and when I placed a 70-80lb doll on it, it snapped immediately at the base.

Excellent product
Very well made, solid, and nicely painted to start with. 1/2" should hold up for a long time at the range and recommend it.
