Good solid built laptop. No lightweight but good all round performer
Bought this laptop for a new business venture overseas but also wanted a PC that would fit on the docking station I'd bought to fit the same 84660P I'd been using as a company issued machine from previous employer.
It seems to be a good solid laptop and practical good looks with brushed aluminium finish. It's not the lightest machine on the market or the thinest but when it's carried in a rucksack type bag, I can't get that excited over a few milimetres or a few grams.
Battery life is more than acceptable with the availibility of around 5 hours on an aircraft with the wireless turned off. I'm thinking of fitting an SSD drive to maybe extend this further and speed up boot times as storage capacity isn't a major concern for me.
Built in webcam is good for Skype and the audio is acceptable but if you want privacy and reduce background noise, you'll probably want a cheap headset. There's also a little LED light to illuminate the keyboard although I think you get more light from the screen unless you have dark backgrounds.
Keyboard has a good feel but like most laptops, you'd not want to type a novel on one. The keys have quite a short travel but have a positive feedback when pressed.
It has an SD card slot (Supports HC cards above 2Gb) and I think a PCMCIA port which has a blank fitted over it above the DVD writer combo. Not had cause to use it so can't verify but with all the built in connectivity (Bluetooth, WIFI etc) I can't think why you'd need one these days, unless you have some legacy memory cards.Other usual ports include a firewire, USB and ESATA on the right hand side of the machine, together with mic and audio out. On the left hand side is the SD card slot, DVD Combo, 2 further USB ports and a small port that I've never used. I must read the manual to see what it does one day. On the rear of the machine is a SVGA port, Ethernet and modem.
It also has a finger print reader on the right hand wrist rest which can be used for logging in and other password substitute functionality. Custom HP security software supports the device and I've been quite impressed with its reliability so far.
Screen clarity is ok but not massive. A DVD looks good enough when I've tried it but generally if I watch something whilst travelling, I tend to use stored media on the HDD or USB stick to reduce battery drain.
If you intend to use the PC from a desk for prolonged periods, I would recommend obtaining the docking station. This allows a dual monitor setup to be employed and give additional connectivity including DVI and HDMI ports and PS2 ports for mouse and keyboard.
In summary, it's a good solid feeling laptop that feels like it will withstand the rigours of international travel. The downside is that it's a bit heavy and angular in construction. For business and leisure use, it has served me well. I've not tried playing any games on it so no idea how it would perform but it does everything you'd need from a corporate machine on the move.

Really useful for rapid connection of light electrical loads
I use these pogo pins for powering small DC fans on custom 3D printed enclosures. It allows the covers to be removed easily without having to disconnect terminals and reconnect when refitting. Handles around 500mA under the conditions I use them for without issue.

Decent quality but expensive for what they are.
I needed a full threaded screw for a 3D printer project and these were one of the few on offer. I think the price is excessive for what they are but at the end of the day, I needed them. Given you can by around 50 of the same sized screws with normal thread length for the same price, it's probably cheaper to buy an M5 die and die-stock and cut the thread on down the bolt if you need more than one or two of these.
Otherwise a good product.
