Hameln Rosewood Flute, End Blown, Vertical, Key of B, 16 inch wood
    Sep 20, 2018
Good for Decorative Object or Woodworking Project
The flute is poorly designed and poorly made. The quena style head/mouthpiece is almost impossible to play because it is too crude. The edge of the labia is too blunt to cut the air and make an easy tone. The wooden tube is about 73 mm too long to play in the key of B. There are two "extra" holes in that extra long portion that cannot be covered with human fingers, but that is not the intent. The upper "extra" hole nearly cuts the acoustic length to the note of B. However, they missed the mark and the base pitch of the flute is a very sharp B flat that is nowhere close to B natural. It appears to me the flute is made on a machine that can only handle a 400 mm tube. Once the tone holes are drilled, an extra hole or two are drilled to make the flute the proper acoustic length. The wood appears to be a nice Indian rosewood, but the finish is substandard. The stain color is in the coating and the coating easily flakes off. There is no way to know if this material is appropriate to be near your mouth. If the tone holes are close to being in tune when I'm done with corrections, I will redo the finish with food grade tung oil. I have 55 years experience playing and making various non-mechanical flutes and related instruments. This flute is cheap enough I chose to keep it and fix it rather than sending it back for a refund. I am new to making a quena and have learned a lot by making this flute sing. I do not regret my choice. However, when I'm done my added labor will far exceed the cost of this flute. Do not buy this or a similar Hameln flute unless you only want a decorative object or a woodworking project.
Fujifilm X-T30 II Mirrorless Camera, Silver #16759641
    Mar 18, 2024
Get a Fuji X-T30 II while they last!
The X-T30 II is a perfect camera for travel, street photography, and casual shooting. This camera has been rated various professional photographers and industry watchers as the best value still photography centric cameras. It is also an easy camera to learn the "exposure triangle" and still photography techniques. Sadly, the word on the street is that Fujifilm is discontinuing this model. I bought what appears to be the last of the silver bodies at the suggested retail price because it matches my X-T5. The black bodies are still readily available. Dealers in Japan are selling NIB silver bodies with a $300 to $400 markup over the MSRP.
