Better tone for edgy pick ups.
These are great for replacing the 14 on the power slinky set to get more even tonality when using the North Polarity single coil pick up from the 50,s....less treble and more in line with the mid range. Much easier on the ear as long as you stay on the neck pick up, also adjust the the treble side of the pick up down to achieve even more mid range, especially using modern solid state rectifier on most amps. The North polarity of the 1950,s single coil pick ups are quite edgy and have a brilliant tone that some people cannot stand and that is why they flipped the magnets in 1960,s Fender to achieve more mid range which is a good thing however, they also went to the Rosewood slab and that sounded a bit too muddy so, they thinned the slab to a veneer and most liked that tone better using the South Polariity pick up. So the idea is to thicken the treble side on the 50,s single coil pick up to find more mid range by changing the 11 and 14 to 12 and 15...and adjust the treble side of the pick up down to find more mid range..use tubes and celestion..try it.

My favorite extra other string
Yes, The .028 Nickel Wound is a must have.... now that its hot as these stick up more on the Fender Vintage neck radius and thus will catch a lot of sweat and grime which in turn rust will begin to corrode the surface and will break more....must be the thinner core as they rust from players sweat and grime build up even if he cleans them off after each jam because the grime is in between the windings and working down to the steel core and will eventually fail....so warmer weather = more string change.....I am going to buy stock in E. Ball because they will sell more strings ...

Power Slinky for bigger tone
Best string gauge for jazz and blues based rock on a Maple neck and 50,s single coil pick up.....might want to go to the next size bigger on the E 1st and B 2nd. Dont forget to tune down a whole step....and if you want to tune like Jimi bring the step up just a little to use the wang so you end up back a whole step down....that is why you see him constantly tuning back up after using the tremelo arm on a song...so he would try not to go past a whole step down...Jimi used south polarity pick ups so his tone was a little less focused...you can even see him tuning during a song...bigger strings, = bigger tone on a Maple neck....try it.
