LISTEN to this amplified bass player and songster!
Recently read a brief blurb about Ms Esperanza indicating a new voice and sound of contemporary jazz. I'm a fan of the late 50's through 70's jazz, and haven't followed it much since then. Well, it sounded like a recording too good to be true, a fresh sound, amplified bass, and small group ensemble. I'd been listening to the Mingus Big Band album, Gunslinging Birds, and thought, hmmmm, a small version perhaps of that wild and woozy sound. And, so, it was, is, a fine blend of upbeat, Latin, and harmonic chords in vocals with bass, horn, drums and keyboard/piano. What finally made me buy it was, oddly, a signed liner note card. Now I'm way to old to be interested in young, beautiful women like Esperanza, but not to old to look. I've even asked my local director of our cultural center to see if he could book her into town, with her own group or perhaps a classical quartet we all love. Buy it, folks!

Well written, good prose and great surprises for the curious.
This portrait of our earth by an eminent biologist is worth reading slowly. It starts by reviewing the life of our planet and tells us that we're about half way through our existence. That's sobering enough but it does also say we've got another few billion years to go. That's if we don't foul our nest to such an extent another species takes over. Think about E.O. Wilson's contention that ants might be a suitable successor. Kinda makes our politicians' statements meaningless when we're discussing how to keep the planet a suitable place for Life On Earth. Cannot recommend it highly enough: get one.
Pilot Varsity 7pc Assorted Fountain Pen Set #90029

Varsity Pilot Assorted Ink Pens are ready for your use, immediately, and for a long time
I've returned to drawing and writing with ink pens, and use Varsity pens currently as they offer ease of use, a good range of colors, and a sturdy tip. Later when I begin reusing my fill-your-own pens, I'll continue to use Varsity as they are always at the ready for a line, a wash, a highlight and more. The colors are rich looking when applied to the page and the pens are easily used in writing or drawing lines. With the recent provision of more varieties of colors for both ink and ball point pens, I have hope Varsity will add to their line a group of neon, metallic and an almost pastel look.
