Best unknown mystery writer
Stephen Greenleaf's imagination coupled with superb writing make him an author's author. Atypical of the mystery genre, his characters pounce off the page through engaging stories, many taking place in San Francisco. The protagonist, John Marshall Tanner, seeks justice on sidewalks, in homes, in the farm fields of Salinas, California, Seattle, Washington, and every time I follow trusting that his dogged determination to uncover the mystery he was hired for. John Marshall Tanner is larger than life giving me reason to wonder, "Why hasn't Hollywood grabbed up the books?" "Flesh Wounds" reunites Tanner with Peggy Nettleton to uncover the whereabouts of a her soon-to-be husband's daughter. In truth, Tanner's love for Peggy, once his secretary, has never died. He will do anything for her. He's lost her but will do anything for her. Riveting.
