Loose trucks due to wheel width
I have only purchased one of these so I can only speak for the one I own. That being said my SD-40-2 arrived looking good and functioning as expected with the exception of the wheel widths. All the wheels are quite narrow making the trucks loose in the tracks. The result is a rather noisy loco as it rattles around the track. Don't know if this is just mine or all the SD-40-2's. My other new Bachmann ES44AC loco does not have this problem.

Cost effective horse power in an attractive package
This MTH model is very smooth and quiet with plenty of power. For the money it is a very good product, the proto3.0 sound is awesome. In my opinion a terrific value, cost effective HP in a good looking unit. Unlike other models in the same price range this model has a very powerful motor the responds throughout the throttle range when pulling a heavy load where others go flat at about 65% throttle. Can't have too many around.

Great Model but it has a Weight Problem
This is a fine entry level Sound and DCC locomotive. It is smooth and the sound effects work as described. The paint job is very good. That being said it has a major flaw regarding it's weight; it is too light. Pulling a 6 foot long line of rail cars it stalls and spins it's wheels over a slight grade. Even my 40 year old Athearn little switch engine doesn't have an issue. My 40 year old converted Athearn GP-38's make this new model look pretty bad in that dept. If your layout is perfectly flat you shouldn't have a problem but if you have a layout with grade changes and bridges, etc. this engine will not make the "grade".
