Not bad for the price
I bought this pump for cleaning up my pool after bad weather, and to avoid having to vacuum into the filter. I run some 2" blue backwash hose from the pump out to the street.
The pump works great, but like someone else mentioned, my pump has a hard time getting started. There's some kind of internal bind, and the motor will just hum until the thermal protection switch shuts it down. You then have to wait approx.1-minute for the switch to reset, before trying to start the motor again.
I even disassembled the impeller housing to try to determine what's causing the startup bind, but didn't find anything. It's most likely due to loose tolerances at the factory.
The solution is to plug in the pump and then quickly give it a turn with a screwdriver, using the the slotted shaft located at the back (fan housing). This gets it past the bind and allows the capacitor to get the motor spinning. Once it's running, the pump works just fine. For the way I use this pump, it's a minor issue at this price point.
