Least expensive external speaker with volume control.
Sometimes, all you need is an external speaker with a volume control. Why? Because the "beep" tone when buttons are pressed on the rig are often louder than you want. You can bring the total volume down with the speaker's volume control, then bring the receive audio up using the rig's audio volume level control. I have bought several of these over the years. You can't build one for what you can buy one for, unless you already have a very well stocked junk drawer. I'm pleased. I also have more expensive external speakers, including self-powered speakers, and heavy duty mobile external speakers. This is not built for harsh use, but at home, just the ticket. Note that it is mono, not stereo, not "blue tooth" or made for cell phones or mp3 players, and not full-fidelity. It's a communications speaker.
