Ettlinger found the origins of the ingredients of a twinkie (which are used ubiquitously in American processed foods), while describing the scientific processes used to manufacture them into consumable products. He goes on to elaborate how these ingredients are used in non food products, where they are made, and how they effect the human body.
Frightening and humorous, enlightening and alarming, this book is an educational gem. I recommend this reading to anyone and everyone who has or has not ever eaten a single piece of processed food, especially those who have ever questioned those long, hard-to-pronounced ingredients on food packaging.
