With a little tweaking it solved the problem.
I suspected the original 10-year-old pull-out hose to be the problem requiring replacement. Between the two furnished pieces, the long hose is what I needed and used. FYI the short hose has the wrong size fitting for my faucet. Dismantling and replacement were pretty straight forward, but then the assembly was leaking when the spray head was pulled-out and held. Two details. There is an imbedded screen one needs to recover from the old hose and insert atop the replacement hose. Second, I needed to cut and insert a spacer washer made from water bottle material to fit between the fitting and the collar nut to the spray head to take up the looseness to prevent the brass collar from pivoting and allowing water to bypass the O-ring. All good now. The overall hose quality is good. Price was fair. Let's see how long this one lasts.
