Revell Star Wars Y-Wing Starfighter SnapTite NEW Model Kit, Still Shrink-Wrapped
    Dec 27, 2021
Not a collector's item, but well worth buying
Well, I was working on a kitbash of something similar to a Y-wing, and figured I could work better if I had a model of such in my hands to look at. Finding that even in Japan the model simply isn't available right now--not at all in the U.S.--I started looking at e-buy for older ones. Happened upon this one, which didn't appear to be my preferred 1:72 scale, but didn't appear to be any _other_ scale either. Gave in and bought one. When it showed up I took it out of the bags and test-fitted it. Seems like a good, sturdy model. Once I get my kitbash done, I think I'm going to take it apart and do a nice finish on it. Seems worth it. The model comes in pre-painted (or -decalled) sprues; someone with a sprue cutter or an x-acto will have no problem getting the parts apart for assembly. The parts are a tight fit; they're _intended_ to be snapped together. If you have a younger modeler, this'd be a good first (or early) kit.

Polar Lights 1:350 Star Trek USS Enterprise Refit Plastic Model Kit POL949

    Daunting--whoa, heck yeah--but exciting too.
I looked for this model not to build an Enterprise (got Enterprises, want something else) but to build my own Destroyer. :) The box showed up with a puffing, bent-kneed postman and I knew something was up. This beast is HUGE. The saucer section alone is larger than any of my cats; assembled (even as the Destroyer I have in mind), this thing is going to need its own zip code (and the decal sheet was nearly as large as my bed!). Tech specs: the box is a solid 16.5"x16.5"x5". Colorful model details on all six sides. The model itself is bagged up in no less than _eleven_ separate sections. A huge saucer section (itself pretty much the size of the box), each engine separate, the engineering section, and several subassemblies for various places (some of which will barely be visible once the whole model's put together). The assembly sheet folds out to bigger than the box, one side with details for the assembly, the other with instructions for where to put the decals (and you want those instructions, believe me). Most places charge a little for this behemoth. Believe me, you're getting your money's worth. Assembled, this thing's going to be nearly a yard in length; make sure you've got somewhere nice (and roomy) to display it. The good is that this thing's complete in itself. Take a little time, excercise a little patience, use a little skill, and you'll have something to show off with pride. Not exactly the _bad_, but certainly the _exasperating_, is that there are numerous aftermarket improvements for this thing--lighting kits, photoetch detail kits, aztec painting kits, decal detailing kits--you don't _need_ any of them, but they are out there, and can easily triple the cost of this dinosaur if you let it. Exercise good judgement. :) And DON'T make this the first model kit you ever assemble. And DON'T give this as a birthday or Christmas gift to someone who's just starting out modeling. It WILL require better-than-beginner modeling skills to properly assemble, and it WILL be a chunk of change down the drain if they can't properly assemble it. (Me, I'm saving up to get another one; I'm gonna use the leftover engine and parts from this one and the new one and make myself a Dreadnought. :) No photos 'cause it's now in line to be assembled behind the TDS Scott Tracy and the new Zoids Iron Kong. 2004-2005 Honda GL1800 A AA Goldwing OEM Double Seat 77200-MCA-A20ZB
    Dec 07, 2017
An excellent value (an OEM replacement for the OEM seat)
My own original seat eventually fell apart after living outdoors for too long (I have no garage, alas). I needed a new seat. The best value (bang for my buck) was just a replacement for my old seat, an OEM Honda seat. That's what this is. It's lightweight, it's sturdy, it's well-built (it fell off the table several times as small humanlike objects ignored orders to leave it alone, and survived such travails intact)(as well, it survived being shipped to me in a box three times its size with no packing materials around it whatsoever, and not a scratch on it), and it's a joy to sit on now that I've put it on my bike. I've read many a review of aftermarket replacement seats on the Goldwing rider forums that complain of this problem or that in quality or comfort, but not very many complaints about the actual Honda seats themselves. If you need a replacement seat for your Goldwing, stick with the tried and true.
