Faithful to the Novel, to a Point
I had just finished the novel, but I should have been expecting a disappointing viewing considering this was made 40 years ago. LOL! The soundtrack was so dated and really distracting. I liked the performances, and the fact that you understand only as much of the language as the protagonist. My husband thought there wasn't enough battle (and he's right) and that it had a very anticlimactic ending. But the ending was just like the book, with some of the voice over being recited verbatim from the book. When the protagonist wasn't in the story, I would have liked subtitles. Occasionally the narrator would speak over the dialogue with some exposition. I haven't watched the special features yet, but plan to.
