Problem solved. Safer than any other choice for the visiting small children.
We have a small room for three grandchildren when they visit. It seemed like the obvious choice would be bunk beds. However, the thought of one of the grandkids sleeping in the upper bunk and falling out of it one night, made me nervous. However, this arrangement, falling should not be a problem. From top mattress to lower mattress is less than a foot and from the lower mattress to the floor is about the same distance.
