Smittybilt XRC tire carrier mounted to 10A bumper
I mounted the Smittybilt XRC tire carrier to my 2013 10th Anniversary Jeep Rubicon this weekend. My Jeep came with the stock steel bumpers and I like the way they look, I wasn’t interested in changing the whole bumper to add a tire carrier. I only found two manufactures that make a swing away carrier and chose the Smittybilt brand. I was very impressed with the quality and strength of the system. The only pain came from taking off the stock bumper. The clips used to snap the plastic parts back in place get broken, bent, or lost and I guess they are only available from the Jeep Dealer. My Jeep has 34’s on it and the stock tire carrier worked fine but on all my jeeps I’ve worked out a way to mount an accessory rack. I like to use a tire carrier to mount it and not the trailer hitch so that you can still open the back cargo door. If anyone with Smittybilt reads this and comes up with a rack system that could support 100#s that would mount to their tire carrier they would sell a ton of them. I’m not the only Jeep owner that doesn’t want to put lawnmower gas cans inside their Jeep!
