Red Flag by George Hall, Michael Skinner (1984)
The first book to be written on the subject, Red Flag is a very good textual and illustrative resource that describes how the curriculum functioned with the focus to disrupt the Soviet Eastern Block Cold War aerial adversary battlefield. The color pictures are unique as compared to other books detailing the Air Force jet participants and the text explains in simple prose the necessity to "train like you fight and fight like you train." Simply characterized as the United States Air Force's example of the Navy's Top Gun program, the reader quickly learns that Red Flag is a far larger program as it involves every single allied aerial asset in existence (including the U.S. Navy), and how they will perform in real-time war. Catered for the modeler, fan, and participating service personnel in-mind, the reader will enjoy the quick read and outstanding photography of the orchestra of allied aerial assets participating in 1980's Cold Wartime scenarios,

Miramar by George N. Hall (1988)
For those of you that are familiar with the works by George Hall, here he goes again. With his inside connections and knack for taking the reader into those top-secret and restricted areas under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Military, he is back with "an inside tour" of Naval Air Station Miramar. Published for the fan of, the curious, and the plastic modeling/aircraft buff, "Miramar" is an in-depth, textual, and image-rich insider tour of one of The United States Navy's most famous Naval Air Station. Home base to the Pacific Fleet Squadron's F-14 Tomcats, E-2 Hawkeyes, and Top Gun- The Navy's Fighter Weapons School, George Hall walks you through all of those areas that people only wish they could experience. "Miramar" takes you from merely peering through the perimeter fences inside the base and up-close to the aircraft, their hangers, on the runways, and inside the facilities of the base itself that was made so famous in the movie, "Top Gun". The perfect balance of textual information and stuffed with pictures is yet another outstanding example by George Hall that easily takes the mystery out of, and satisfies the curiosities that build-up from peering inside the fences of that famous place that launches these awe-inspiring aircraft from the U.S. Navy's best.

    The Right Stuff
Whether a lover of history, military aviation, the space program leading-up to man walking on the moon, and / or loving memories of a time when the overall population of the United States was so patriotic in the immediate aftermath of World War II, this movie is for you and your family. Based on an era in American history where the United States was moving-on after winning World War II and with it, the United States Military Complex was strengthening with the support of popular patriotism to hinder any possibilities of war occurring again with showcasing the rapid evolutions in aviation technology and planting the seeds for the development of the Space Program and the goal of placing Americans on the surface of the moon and "returning them safely back to the Earth." This lengthy, but riveting journey throughout, takes you into the personal lives of the families and heroes and their striving to beat the odds using the technologies developed by Americas youngest and brightest and conquering the inherent hardships that come with these public service requirements. For those that seek to disappear from the present and enter into the nostalgia of post World War II and through the Kennedy years living within the cultures that made this time great in American history, The Right Stuff is the ideal time machine to do so.
