Good quality geotextile by the metre
Geotextile membrane is difficult to find other than as huge (and expensive) rolls. The great thing about this is that it's a good quality geotextile membrane sold by the metre, so if you only need a small amount you don't spend out huge sums of money and waste most of the roll.
I was using it to make a French drain and it was perfect for this (it stops the surrounding soil from moving into the gravel around the drain pipe and so gradually bunging it all up).
I'm sure it would be effective as a weed prevention fabric, but being white in colour I would reckon there are better products for this if using on the surface. I'm sure it will, though, stop roots growing into my french drain which is good enough for me.
