Republic of Gamers is what Abit's Fatal1ty series could have been
2 of 2 found this helpful FANTASTIC. Upgraded from a failed Crosshair I ROG board for almost half the price. The technology on this board is astounding. The addition of USB 3.0 and SATA 3 is no joke. What used to take me 7 minutes to transfer data from a DVDR disc to the hardrive via USB 2.0 now takes less than a minute! The overclocking and options for tweaking on this board are insane. The black and red color scheme is also very well done and the layout for the most part is very well done.
Only 1 of 2 negatives (if it could be considered one) is that it has one PCI slot...it would have been better to use that for an PCIe slot. It's the only part of this board that is not technologically advanced like the rest of the components. Even the IDE connector is gone. All SATA 3 6GB connectors here on out. The board is very forgiving with hardware and overclocking. The MEM OK button on the board automatically tunes any inconsistencies (unless it's physically failing) with memory compatibility. The board supports so many memory brands the support list on the webiste is now outdated.
The second negative is the placement of the AM3 slot in relation to the memory slots. You cannot use a 120mm low profile CPU cooler in conjunction with full profile (ie tall heat spreaders) without sacrificing the red Dual channel A slots. You'll have to move the memory sticks into the B (black( slots. It's no problem if you are using low profile memory though as the low profile CPU coolers are a little taller than the low profile memory sticks.
The board has a sticker on it saying X-FI Supreme FX audio chip. Not exactly, the sound is an VIA Azalia HD that support a software (only) soundblaster X-Fi option. The X-Fi software installation option is not available until the VIA audio driver is installed.
Don't forget to update the BIOS via ASUSUpdate to version 3027. The early version were known to cause all kinds of instability issues. Plus the 3027 BIOS supports the new FX processors.
I'm still learning what this board is capable of so this review is indeed incomplete.
Below is what I run on the board. It's ideal for all situations.
ASUS Crosshair IV Formula 890FX
AMD Phenom II 965 x4 3.4ghz stock
Corsair Vengeance 9-9-9-24 DDR3 12 GB low profile/full profile
Zalman CNPS7000V(AL)-I-PWM Ultra Quiet CPU Cooler (120mm)

Lumia 1520 the Legend Continues Now with LTE!
The phone with the BEST phone OS that ever was, the Lumia with Windows 8.1 had a bright future or so we thought. Alas we know how Microsoft treated its brand in the end.
This is the Lumia 1520 16GB AT&T Unlocked version. It is an RM-940 which is different from the RM-937 (Europe/Asia), the RM-938 (South America) and RM-939.There is also an 32GB internal storage version.
The phone has a 1920x1080 HD screen with a 20MP main camera. It also shoots native 4K UHD video. It can hold a 64GB micro-SD (get one with a higher clock speed, you'll need it if you shoot at 4k).
It comes standard with 4 microphones built in so you can capture sound from multiple directions. It can playback true 1080p videos encoded with AC3 Dolby Digital soundtracks. It can also playback true 4K videos although I have not tested any with AC3 audio tracks (just AAC or PCM).
But what is MOST special about this phone is its ability to work properly on T-Mobile's network even though it was made for the AT&T network. This phone lets you the enable extra bandwidth channels as well. From my exhaustive research I founds that ONLY the 938 and 940 are capable of doing this extra bandwidth enabling. The others are loocked and use a different firmware (to lock you out).
I have updated my Lumia 1520 to Windows 10M Release 1607 (final version that will ever be released). There is no reason to stay with 8.1M after Microsoft abandoned it for Google. The phone runs flawlessly on release 1607. You also get to keep the Lumia Camera app!
Lumia 1520 was made for Windows 10M. And it has the Apps Store still working.
You must update to the final 1607 release as previous revisions of Windows 10M were/are power hogs and will drain your battery quickly.
Skype will be your SMS messenging app by default if you don't install another.
I'm now on T-Mobile.
Remember ONLY the RM-938 or RM-940 (this one) will work with T-Mobile's network. This is the most important information someone should be asking about these phones. Will it update to Windows 10M and can I used it on T-Mobile. Yes to both.
I hope I didn't just make the Lumia 1520 the most sought after Phablet ever. LOL.
Cheers!

My Supreme
Going from an Sapphire R9 390 Nitro+ 8GB to the Sapphire RX590 Nitro+ 8GB Special Edition is a big jump in performance across the board. The switch to 12nm from 14nm does show a marked improvement to my eyes. Now I die 3x faster in games because I move 3x faster.
I've been a supporter of the Sapphire brand since the R9 290X Tri-X OC 4GB and don't see that stopping anytime soon. They make solid products with sensible shrouds over their heatsinks (looking at you XFX and Gigabyte).
Did I mention I played back Star Wars 4K77 at 4K? Wow! And this thing is quiet, even with only 2 fans on the card.
It plays 4K77 at 4K!
