Casio Fx-991EX Scientific Calculator
Jun 04, 2017
At present, the best value for money calculator for under £30.
Tweaked version of its predecessor, the fx-991ES Plus, and worth it just on looks alone! Appearance is almost a work of art and with its attractive, main menu icons, looks stunning. It is, however, highly functional as well and possesses amazing features for the money, including two unique ones: a polynomial inequality solver and a ratio solver. Don't get too carried away though! This is not a true graphical calculator, it isn't programmable, can't be connected to a computer, and, unlike the fx-9860GII, you can't add a range of apps. Also, they've improved the statistical functions but these are no match for what the fx-9750GII or fx-9860GII offer. Also, don't expect the same build quality, either! A great little calculator though and well worth the low price on eBay.

Z Cars [DVD] - DVD PKVG The Cheap Fast Free Post

Rather Bland!
With six episodes, three in two parts, you're getting a fair deal for your money! The plots are slow-moving, and with no background music, a vivid impression of what life was like back then in the early 1970s, is portrayed. Particularly good is that most of the characters are far removed from the Hollywood glamour models associated with series such as Rockford Files, thereby adding to the authenticity. The criminals are often shown as ugly, sleazy individuals - more convincingly so than on any other series in my opinion. Anything negative to say? Unfortunately yes! The episodes do lack the charisma associated with Dixon of Dock Green, and the dynamism associated with series such as The Saint or The Persuaders. Obviously, these are of a different genre, but I mention this because even the black and white series of The Saint, dating back to the early 1960s, has better plot development; more interesting characters and a lot more action. Z-Cars comes across as bland in comparison. In fairness, three of the episodes are good and I particularly like the way the complete absence of any decency in one of the characters is portrayed, without recourse to violence. A psychopathic personality need not necessarily result in murder and violence!

Elegant, well-made unit built to last, with an excellent sat-nav package.
The Pros. Unbeatable value-for-money. Similar in some respects to an early Tom Tom system in terms of icons/layout. When set to 'short', you really do get the shortest possible route, making full use of minor roads, but in a more intelligent way than early Tom Tom units, which would avoid a trunk road even if the saving was only 0.1 miles; this unit appears not to do this; truly excellent. Another good aspect is the road safety feature where a circular road-traffic-sign appears with the speed limit for the road if you exceed the speed limit, and an authoritative voice states "You're over the speed limit." This really makes you want to slow down; all sat-navs should be like this. The junction approach display is also particularly good. When you approach a roudabout, the 3D display changes to show an arial view of the junction making it very clear which exit to take; once again brilliant. Now for the best feature which to my mind really gives the finishing touches to an excellent package; the trip-meter. This seems more akin to an aeroplane than a car and the styling is absolutely superb. You get a beautiful combination of analogue and digital dials to show: speed, average speed, maximum speed, time, arrival time, duration of journey, compass position, minimum altitude, current altitude, maximum altitude.Full trip facilities are available and it can easily be re-set and paused. There's even a little cut-out in the simulated instrument pannel to show where to turn left or right and the distance to go before doing so. Yet another plus point is the ability to have the directions transmitted by FM directly to your in-car stereo, if you want it louder than the unit can provide. The unit is very well made and looks as if it is going to be sufficiently water resistant to use on a motor-bike. You also get a proper holder built to last. Not something with a wire inside that's going to snap after you've adjusted it several times. This one is designed to be adjusted and re-adjusted without causing damage. Regular map updates are supposed to be free. The Conns. Battery life if short; about two hour. You can not put the unit into stand-by without having to re-select 'Navigation' when the unit is switched on again and this causes a delay (Tom Tom doesn't have this problem). Maybe I was unlucky, I don't know, but speed camera alerts just don't seem to be there. On maximum volume setting, the voice directions are still not loud enough and American terminology is used ('Freeway' instead 'Motorway'). Alternative route selection is not possible (Tom Tom allows you to select as many 'Fast' or 'Short' routes as you like). If you don't like the look of the first one, you just reselect until you get something similar to what you had in mind. This facility, isn't available , which is a pitty. If I'm travelling from Enfield to Cockermouth, I want to go via the A1 and A66, not via the M1, Birmingham, M6 and Windermere thank you very much! I've tried using it as a pocket-pc in Windows 6CE mode, to run other software, but it fails to do so. This is a pitty because I see no reason why one shouldn't be able to run more than one sat-nav package and a whole host of games as well.
