Oldie, but goody!
Much like an old air-cooled VW Beetle, 2gb DDR3 RAM just chugs along. This was used in a computer build for needy Autistic children - it works, it's reliable, as they won't be playing Battlefield 1 on this computer, it'll do everything ELSE that's required of it.
If you're building a "beater box," you can't go wrong with the ol' reliable!

ASRock = BEST Gen.4 board there is!
1 of 1 found this helpful I've been using a Z97 Extreme6 for a couple of years now with ZERO problems, and needed to upgrade a multi-media machine at work. Knowing the success I've had with ASRock, and not wanting to leave it to chance, I went with the Extreme 4 (saved a few pennies over the Extreme 6), and it absolutely does everything JUST as well big brother.
The eight SATA 3 slots were JUST enough for the big Lian Li case we're running, which is running 4 HHDs and 2 optical drives. With an i7 4770k cpu and 32gb of RAM, dual GPU's and 6 case fans, the ASRock eats it up and comes back for more. A Corsair 850w psu keeps it running smoothly, and we're ready to watch Archie Bunker Youtubes all day at work! :-p
The UEFI is easy to understand and set up to taste. The App Shop does NOT want to run on the Extreme 4 - I've heard of it failing with other people on various computer boards, and it won't run on mine either. Runs GREAT on my 6, but NOT on the 4. No big loss I think, but there you have it.
If you're still running a Gen.4 cpu, the ASRock Z97 Extreme series is WHAT you want. I've had great success with my 6, and this 4 is off to a great start. I expect good things out of it for years to come.

Save that old AMD chipset - get it a good motherboard!
I'm saving an old Compaq Presario, so my four children can beat on it. This was THE, top-of-the-line board for AM2 chipsets back in the day. If you still have an old 3.2ghz chipset, you'll squeeze another 5 years of useful life out of it easily with this board! Not bad, for $50!
