Problem with Phone

I bought this phone to use with AT&T at first and it worked great but later on I tried to use it with a Boost Mobile sim card but it did not work. I was under the impression that a cell phone that had been unlocked would work with more than one cell phone carrier as long as you changed the sim card but aparently this phone does not work with Boost Mobile.
