dissapointing

Item arrived as described and well packaged, but does not perform as expected... Having exhausted every possible connection option, watched numerous connection videos etc, the VU needles do not move, but just stay in a fixed position, whether there is music playing or not. Its a nice looking unit, and appears to be well made, so its pretty disappointing that it doesn't function properly.. I am not sure what to do next...
