I bought Style by Saladino because I've liked John Saladino design projects/homes pictured in magazines. His rooms evoke feelings in me others don't, feelings not unlike ones you'd have if spoken to in an unknown romantic language, you don't understand the language, but you somehow are getting the intended message, one that is compelling, mystifying, embracing. I can't quite put my finger on what is so different about his work that makes it do this, so I bought this book hoping to find out. He says in the book that that kind of response is his objective. Mission accomplished, bravo. I imagine how much his clients and he himself thrive as they actually live in one of his "still life" masterpieces. I did find many of the answers to my questions thankfully. "Style" is well written, revealing, educational and as relevant as it was when it was published 11 years ago. Much like John Saladino's amazing ability to create beautiful transcendent spaces. The written discourses, drawings, and color photography herald a culmination of his vast experience, education and travel, into his uniquely modern era appropriate style, which he says pays homage to the classicist and romantic arts. This visionary teaches how to see our surroundings with a new set of eyes and generously shares lessons that enrich our understanding of great timeless design. You will take away many treasures from this master related to interior, exterior, garden and architectural design. I enjoyed reading it and it left me wanting more.
