A truly useful item...
The Columbia River Knife & Tool, Inc.(CRKT), Special Forces Cruiser. Let's take journey into it's Pro's and Con's...
Now as my Daddy used to say; "Son, take the bad news first, it just makes the good news sound gooder".
The Cons...
1. It's not made anymore. CRKT ceased not only production of the knife but any support or parts replacement. If you have one of these or any other Hammond design they will only offer a coupon for the purchase of another item.
2. The edge grind. Most people think that it's a single bevel, like a chisel, but if you look closely at the opposite side you will notice a very small grind line. this is known as a back bevel. See item 6 of the attached photo.
Most cutting utensils that use this type of edge are very specific because they are meant to cut through bone. The only historical use of this style was the medieval executioner's axe. The edge is sharp enough to cleave flesh but strong enough to cut through the cervical bones without chipping and is easily re-sharpened.
3. The blade design. The design of the blade uses two of the most hard to maintain designs, serrations and the recurve. Both require special techniques and special tools to maintain optimum performance. If you think that you can just "touch-up" in the field with a standard stone or carbide sharpener, you will totally mess up the edge alignment and be left with a knife that will not cut.
4. The handle holes. While they are large enough to run a lanyard through and the rear one is placed exactly in the right spot for one, you'll learn through trial and error that the blade is a tad bit longer than the Hammond Cruiser but it has more "belly" due it's recurve design and will over time cut the lanyard in two.
5. After ... This "con" has to deal somewhat with WHAT the item is, it's a knife, duh, but more specifically WHAT will happen should you have to use it in a dire case of self-defense.
Twice in my life I've had to defend myself from harm using a knife, once in California and once in Kentucky. In both instances the knife was taken as evidence by local law enforcement, In both situations I was given an item, case, and file number and informed that after the investigation and subsequent trial, I would be able to reclaim my knife. In both cases my knife was destroyed after the conclusion of the court cases. Even though I was in the right and used my right to defend myself my knives were destroyed.
In California my knife was destroyed because it had been contaminated by "bodily fluids and represented a health hazard".
In Kentucky the local police department will only hold an item for 180 days. The trial lasted 13 months due to the perpetrator's attorney calling for one extension after another.
So do your own research to the laws, statutes, rules and regulations of your city and state pertaining to the use of a bladed instrument for self-defense.
Now the "PRO's"...
1. CRKT doesn't make it anymore so that makes it rare, few and a collectors item. Since 2008 I've only seen 4, counting this purchase, offered for sale and one of those had been a bogus account. It's Jim Hammond design and even he doesn't offer it anymore. So if you see one, get it before I do.
2. The edge grind. Like I stated above in the "CON's", the edge grind is unique. It's meant to inflict a deep cut into hard tissue without chipping or rolling of the edge. With proper technique a shaving sharp level of cutting ability is possible and will maintain longer.
3. The blade design. A recurved blade has what is known as a "belly", the negative downward curve, and the "waist", the positive upward curve. This allows for more material upfront for a deeper cutting action. To re-sharpen simply takes a good ceramic rod or circle stone. Just remember that the blade is curved and it needs a curved surface to make positive contact and a back and forth sweeping action, not a push-pull straight action as with straight edged blades.
4. The handle. The handle allows for all gripping styles. From the "Hammer-fist" to the Hollywood ninja, reverse ice-pick, but where it excels is the "fencer" grip. This styles allows for a higher degree of control so quick tip cuts and an extension of reach is in favor of the user.
5. Before ... This is to remind the user that before you decide to take this out as part of your everyday carry ensemble, remember, this knife is no longer made. it is unique in it's design and ability. I now own two of these, one for myself and one for my son, both are valuable and both are truly one of those "never can be replaced" items.
So thank you for taking the time to read my review. If at all possible, send some business to the seller of this item. They did a fantastic job in getting this item to me.

Airsoft "rifle"? yes, Real rifle? NO.
6 of 7 found this helpful First let me say that I will give credit where credit is due and that the seller is a great seller and has many, many top quality items. unfortunately this is not one of them.
the design of the mount is unique and while it may look practical and useful, it is. for airsoft. not for a real rifle going through a 3 day course.
the placement for the optic is actually the "forward" area of the mount. if you mount an optic to it and then mount it to your weapon as it is pictured, you will have between 0 to maybe 2 inches of eye relief. also, if you flip up the back up sight in this position, due to it being so far from your eye, it will obscure your front sight to the extent of being useless. also the back up sight is "clamped" to a small hex screw that is held in place by a washer and hex nut. go too far right and the screw tightens to the point of locking into the mount. go too far left and it will unscrew from the nut and you'll be looking for it and the washer.
further more, the back up sight is, as I said previously, clamped onto the screw. it is no where near being level. mine had over 15 degrees of cant. I say had because I just removed it entirely.
the locking arms will not tighten properly. if you use a socket to tighten the retaining screws, the release points for the arms bind and will not hold. shooting XM-193 55grain FMJ and M-855 62grain FMJ from a 16 inch, mid-length barrel and 20 inch heavy barrel also showed that it will not hold zero.
like I said before, the design looks good, but it is made for airsoft, not a real rifle.

Another Excellent Product!!!
in the months that i have made purchases from Klonimus not a single item has failed to impress me with the quality for price ratio. these are no exception.
the magazines come with a slightly greasy/tacky coating that comes right off with some Gumout carburetor cleaner, which i understand since these are made from carbon steel, but they get real slickity smooth with a quick spray of WD-40 and a wipe down with a shop cloth or other lint free fabric.
the springs hold their compression value and with the easy-peasy one pin removable base plate switching to extra power or lighter power magazine springs is a breeze.
the only thing that i could complain about is that i wish that they offered a polished nickel or polished chrome option or even a double-stack version but then that would cost more so i understand. one can still dream though...
all in all, if you're a beginner 1911 owner or a "veteran of two world-wars", Klonimus does offer excellent products at fantastic prices.
